Traditional Art Favorites of 2011!
Another year is over and it's time for my annual art feature of works submitted in 2011!
This is both my favorite and the most difficult art feature to make. After going through thousands and thousands of works you can imagine how hard it was to pick just some.
Artworks were chosen by different combination of the following "criteria":
general impression • emotion conveying • meaning of the artwork • pure awesomeness • idea/concept • originality • complexity • technique • quality • subject • incredible realism • great style • everything else I forgot to write

A friend of mine :iconAngelaLeonetti: Came up with the brilliant idea to feature three pieces by the first fifteen watchers that responded to her journal entry. Well since I didn't think I'd get that many responses to this feature I decided to go into my favorites and choose some of my own to show off! Art doesn't need to be a nasty, cut-throat competition. You can be nice and still succeed...
Art is a solitary pursuit. As artists we spend hours and hours holed up in our studios, living the lives of modern day hermits. Sure, we get out sometimes. That's what conventions are for, after all. But by and large most of us are all too happy to spend more time with our brushes/tablets than with our fellow human beings.
In being a professional artist, however, we need to foster a sense of community and camaraderie with our fellow artists. Far too often I see artists treating the art world like a huge competition. It's them versus the world. They need to reach the top no matter how many artists they have to cl

It's because I care...Drawing tips.
I am a primitive man. I have no Photoshop or anything like that, just a basic grip of the English language and Windows Word.
I am a self-taught artist just trying to pass on what little knowledge I have to the poor unsuspecting masses.
Honestly the best tip I can give anyone is to seriously take your time. Chillax! Did I just say chillax?
It's not a race. I get a little peeved when I see other artist bragging about how quickly they finished a drawing. Why does it matter? It's how long the finished piece can conjure joy in the observer that really means something. I think a recent piece I did, if I had worked solidly from start to finish, would have taken me about 40 or 50 hours, maybe longer. So take your time and really try to observe what you see there in front of you. Ignore your brain. I ignore my brain all the time. So much so that it really doesn't bother to tell me much at all any more. Ignore your brain when it tries to tell you what the thing you are trying to dr

Fakers and LosersA while ago, :iconpbird12: a.k.a Paula wrote an article

which states clear cut facts so as to why the whole issue about someone faking their art creates rage waves through the art community!
The last week has been a riot which ended up in me getting blocked by two deviants here who clearly have something to hide!
I obviously care much less about the fact that there are many artists here on dA who get more famous than others considering the skill work. Some people get lucky and some don't. It's not easy getting known around this site.
But the fact that people would want to fake art to get accolades makes me angrier than ever.
Here are two examples on what happens when you try to confront artists whom you are suspicious about!

Feature, notices, news, etc. This week there won't be Weekly features, only this small feature.
My photography account, !WickedxIllusion, no longer exists, so you can remove it if you're watching it. A new one will be made and it should have much better selection of my best old and new photography, will notify you and put a few thumbs here so those who like it can watch it if they want.
My digital art account, ~xBluepearlx has been emptied and I think it's safe to suggest watchers to remove that one too because: a) it will be deactivated, or b) will be abandoned, no new works will be uploaded, but the gallery will stay up for anyone who wants to browse the old work.
If you're seller on Society6 too, it would be great if we could follow each other and promote our works and that way maybe help each other to increase our sales.

Big Weekly Features!I missed the last week's features! O.o I'm not too happy I'll probably break my little tradition of submitting a new work on my birthday. 3 finals to survive 3 days in a row before it = zero time for drawing, but who knows, maybe I manage to finish one of the works I have in progress the day before.
I'm currently very deep in various fanartz (it's overwhelming tbh), but that doesn't mean I don't have 1056461925 other drawings I'd really like to do too, only, their turn never seems to come; too hard fight against the fanart to win and get the priority. So, I definitely haven't gone fanart only in case some of you who don't watch me for the fanart only have been wondering.
Also, I'm way behind on commenting the new works I faved and featured long time ago. Commented barely anything lately, sorry for that, will make it up to you, as soon as the damn uni is over.

Do you remember when you started drawing? Did something or someone in particular inspire you to pick up your pencils?
